Can I wash my dog with human shampoo and conditioner?

I have 3 Shih Tzu's and use Baby shampoo and baby conditioner on them. It leave their hair soft and manageable and their skin is not dry. It is also safe if it should get into their eyes.Can I wash my dog with human shampoo and conditioner?
No, it's too harsh for them, but a lot of the shampoos made for dogs are very harsh also. If you don't want to spend the money on a good shampoo and conditioner for dogs then you can use baby shampoo or Ivory dish detergent.Can I wash my dog with human shampoo and conditioner?
We used to use Dawn dish soap on our dogs, and they never had any problems. You shouldn't wash dogs more than once every 3-4 weeks anyway, it's bad for their skin. So anything used that infrequently isn't dangerous.

you could but it would be better with dog shampoo because it has things in it for pets like things to keep away fleas. however, my dog has been washed with human shampoo before because we didn't have any dog shampoo at the moment.

I think human shampoo is suppose to dry out their skin/coat more than dog shampoo. I used it on one of my dogs for years, though, and haven't had an issue. The other one suffers from allergies so I buy dog shampoo that is suppose to help with the itching.
Nope! The chemicals in human shampoo and conditioner are much too harsh for dogs, and can result in skin problems. Please stick to shampoo that is specially formulated for dogs.

if you are going to use human shampoo use baby shampoo it will help to keep from stripping the natural skin oils from their skin and coats. conditioner is fine but shampoo has harsh soap chemicals in it that dry your skin as well as a dogs. thats why there is a difference between dandruff shampoos and regular shampoos. regular shampoos can cause severe dry skin on the scalp in some humans....

Yes you can. I have and it has done nothing to my dog skin or anything. If anything it makes them smell better. The best thing is to use dog shampoo , but if you ran out or what not , then just use reg shampoo... It's fine

No, the dogs skin is very sensitive, also depending on the breed some are more sensitive. I suggest you go to a pet store or a department store and grab some dog shampoo.


You dont want to risk your dog having a reaction to the people shampoo then it may cost you alot in vet bills and have to worry about the discomfort of the dog.
