i was at the hair dresser the other day and she told me that the garnier fructis/pantene shampoos and conditioners i was using were like dawn dish soap on my hair and they leave waxy buildup... she suggested some paul mitchell something or other but i'd rather not spring for profesional products, and i think she might have been just trying to sell me the stuff. so are any of the grocery store/walmart shampoos any better than the other? i know theres no comparison to profesional, but theres got to be a runner-up right?Whats the best non-profesional shampoo and conditioner?
I saw a report on Good Morning America last year that the basic ingredients in all shampoos were the same, and that the only difference between Suave and high-end salon brands was packaging and *maybe* fragrances.
Also, since when did they put wax in Dawn dish soap or Garnier or Pantene?
Instead of ';clarifying'; shampoos, I've used vinegar and water. Cleans out everything, and leaves hair extra shiny. My mom also uses flat beer...same effect (I'd rather drink beer than bathe in it).Whats the best non-profesional shampoo and conditioner?
I bathe my border Collie with 'Woolwash' which has a neutral p.h. like most hair shampoo. It contains Eucalyptus which is a great insect %26amp; flea deterrant. His coat glistens %26amp; attracts many compliments from other dog owners.I have used it on my own hair many times. If you want your hair to really sparkle,
try rinsing with lemon juice, then give it a good brushing %26amp; enjoy the results!.
I like to use Herbal Essence Shampoos. They work great, smell wonderful and are affordable. I have also bought Neutrogena Clarifying Shampoo. After I have used up the Herbal Essence Shampoo/Conditioner I'll wash my hair a couple of times with the Neutrogena shampoo. Using another type of shampoo helps wash out the build up of your regular shampoo ( I asked my stylist and she told me about switching shampoos) Mostl hairdressers try to sell you salon stuff because they prob have a quota to fill and receive a percentage of the profits. Of course they want to sell their stuff. How else would they make money (salon and staff). What you need to do is to find a stylist who is looking to keep you satisfied with her/his services - because a good stylist knows that a happy customer refers more customers.
your right! you don't need to spend a lot of $$$$ on great looking hair. SUAVE! AND ITS LIKE $0.94 @ WAL-MART
I grew up ina salon and yes, those ';cheaper'; products do tend to leave more buildup on your hair and don't really do what they say they are supposed to. Most people who i know use these products have just general hair- straight and easy to do, no flakes, no dryness just hair. Pantene in my eyes sucks! Sucks the moisture out of your hair and just sucks! It makes my hair so ratty!
Well mine isn't so lucky...I have wavy curls and i straighten so I need extra moisture and I need soft hair not ratty hair. I hate tangles and when i use Biolage, I don't get tangles. I don't ever use anything but professional products.. they really do make a difference and is worth the price.
Sunsilk? Redken? Dove?
Sunsilk is nice though, gives that, well,
silky, smooth, fresh, clean feeling
My wife swears by Pantene and says using anything else leaves her hair tangly and hard to comb. When we are on vacation she makes me run out and find some if the hotel doesn't provide Pantene products.
trust me mayne and tail you can get it at walmart and its fantastic!!!!
it depends on your hair type but pantene is top of the line stuff ....its generally for evrey hairtype... she's just trying to make you buy exspensive stuff, not to say paul mitchelle isnt good ( because hes great) but you wont notice the difference when you switch from pantene to that its about the same
I can't tell you what is best for your hair, but i can suggest some things that I like. I use sunsilk hydra tlc. I love it, it makes my curly hair shiny and soft...the smell kinda makes me sick though. Another good one is Herbal essences hello hydration. It smells good and makes hair soft and silky. The best thing is to try different products and use each one for at least a week and see what works for you.
herbal essences is cool, but for more control go for tressemme. garnier gives me a rash nad so does pantene. i've been wanting to try sunsilk, but i'm afraid of a rash. good luch shampoo hunting!
ps. always leave a little conditioner in when you're hair is wet after you shower. especially tressemme conditioner. just watch what happens!
To a degree you are right back when I was in Cosmetology School they taught us there are some basic differences in shampoos and conditioners but beyond that they are pretty much the same. Except your stylist doesn't make money on the shampoos you by elsewhere. Steer clear of Pert and Prell unless you have virgin oily hair otherwise they will dry your hair out and damage it. I am including an article I wrote on this subject for another forum its a bit lengthy but it might help you.
I am a former Hair Stylist and some friends and family still ask me what shampoo and sometimes conditioner they should buy and can understand the confusion they feel with all the choices out there now. Manufacturer's would like us to believe we need 20 different kinds of Shampoo and Conditioner for each member of the family. Let's Address Baby's hair first:
I would buy a quality ';Baby Shampoo'; for baby for about the first year of life. Don't use it on any other family member, it won't work well and is a waste of money then. Most baby shampoos are low sudsing, easily rinsed out and not very effective cleansers. Using it just on baby would make a bottle last forever. Remember, they are designed for babies with sparse thin hair that require very little cleansing. But some can be harsh, so they can wreck chemically treated hair.
Children's Hair:
Most shampoo manufacturer's have came out with children's shampoos and conditioners with fancy eye catching bottles and claim to be gentle. They are for the most part ';adult'; products redesigned to be attractive to children. They might have a different scent or label but are just the same as the adult version perhaps less conditioning. Most children of course don't have chemically treated hair and these products seem to work well for them. But if your child has long or curly hair they usually don't provide enough conditioning and comb-outs can be a nightmare. If your child has long or curly hair step up to a much more conditioning shampoo and hair conditioner to de-snarl that hair and make both you and your child much happier. A nice over-the counter product would be say Pantene or Dove (and use the conditioner too your child will thank you). If your child have oily or especially dirty hair and it is not long you can use Pert or Prell. Although quite harsh if used daily these shampoos are effective cleansers.
Teenage Girls and Women:
Most Teenager's and Women and some Men now chemically treat their hair. Color, Perms, Straighteners. They need conditioning shampoos and a good hair conditioner to follow. These can get expensive, rule of thumb save these products for only the people in the house who have chemically treated hair. Use a good product I see no sense in spending enormous amounts of money to color, perm or straighten only to use some harsh stripping shampoo and fade your color, loosen your perm etc. Matrix makes a good line of product Biolage comes to mind or Sleek Look or the line for colored hair. If you don't choose a salon product at least use Pantene, Dove, Herbal Essences Hello Hydration.
Men or Women with Short Untreated Hair:
If your hair is short and you do not chemically alter it, you can use just about any shampoo or conditioner you choose. If you have oily hair Pert, Prell are good cleansing shampoos. Pantene is good for dry hair. Even Suave products will work for you. You won't need spend much to shampoo your hair.
Ethnic Hair:
Most people assume African Americans need to buy special or different Shampoo's and that Caucasians should never use them. Wrong, hair is hair is hair. As I stylist I seen all types of hair and ethnic hair. You have to judge the hair by the individual not the race. I have seen Caucasians with essentially ';black'; hair and African American's with Caucasian hair texture.
Another myth is that African Americans should not wash their hair everyday. Most African Americans do not wash their hair everyday due to the time and effort they have to put in to straighten and relax their hair. They may be literally hours doing there hair. If you wear your hair ';natural'; I do recommend washing it daily. I won't strip the oils out or dry your hair if you are using a good product. I recommend the Chi Line of products for all Ethnic/Curly/Frizzy hair that is treated, straightened, colored in any way. Also try the Chi Silk Infusion, its wonderful stuff on any hair type.
I hope this helps!
I swear by loreal stuff, aussie stuff is pretty good too.
I like Aussie, but I switch on and off, w/ different products all the time. And I got some stuff from Regis, a few months back and it wasn't all that. So yea, i think she was just trying to sell it to u. But it doesn't hurt to try it if your curious, and want to spend a few extra $$$! Hope u find a good one! :)
I love the Suave Clarifying shampoo and conditioner. It removes buildup and gets it squeaky clean and it doesnt make your hair feel stiff or hard like other ahir products! It makes my hair very soft and smells good!
Also, i know that head and shoulders has just come out with like 20 different kinds of shampoo and conditioner! I havent tried them, but there are tons to choose from!
**Suave is about 1.00-1.50 a bottle! CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
I use suave the strawberry scented shampoo %26amp; conditoner works for me.
Yuk, I really hate Garnier.
Get Herbal Essence. I love that shampoo and conditioner. It leaves my hair feeling soft and smells great.
